FROM MALTA "A SHOW OF THEIR OWN" BY SITEARM MADONNA It's a television show... that's not unusual. It's a live simulcast into Second Life... that's not unusual. It's a weekly series running for three months... that's a bit unusual where one-time slams seem to be the SL norm. And it's targeted for professional musicians and originates from the Republic of Malta. Say WHAT?! It's "Lets Talk Music TV," a new television show addressing music industry issues and tagged as "An intelligent music program for the 21st century." Each Thursday at 11:30am slt an expert panel takes questions from a real-world and virtual-world live audience and discusses how musicians can succeed. The show is the collaborative brainchild of UK producer/musician Tony Moore, Maltese One TV, and Dublin in SL owner Ham Rambler. Moore enthuses, "I am really excited to be part of a groundbreaking initiative that simulcasts a live prime time TV chat show televised in Malta with SL audiences throughout the world." Moore is a musician and songwriter well known for running multiple live music venues in the UK including the Bedford Bandstand. He MC's several shows a week featuring talent scouted from UK resident and visiting musicians; and recently hosted British Stage at the MIDEM trade show in Cannes. Rambler is an airline pilot and executive well known as the owner and business manager of Dublin in SL. Rambler explains, "Having worked with Tony Moore over the past 3 years to bring Live music Simulcasts to Dublin, this seemed like a natural co-operative venture. While the show originates in a small Mediterranean country, it tackles issues of the Music Industry worldwide and should be of interest to all musicians, producers, DJ’s and Radio Show presenters. I have been invited onto the panel in June to discuss the internet, when we will cover Second Life." Malta is a volatile meeting place for world talent and innovation. It's a small island nation, in the Mediterranean Sea, whose residents are descended from Phoenicians and Carthaginians and whose largest minority is British. Malta gained independence from the UK in 1964 and is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and the European Union. Its languages are Maltese and English, with Maltese being the only form of Arabic written in the Latin alphabet. Panel topics include Music Law, Publishing, Marketing & Promotion, Record Producers, Internet, and others. A recent panel featured two performing artists and two representatives of the PRS and MCPS royalty collecting societies. Discussion and questions from the audience focused on protecting original music composed and performed by budding musicians. The Internet topic is scheduled for June and will specifically address Second Life and Music. "The uniquely configurable environment that is only possible within SL and the compelling content created within the RL studio is a winning combination," explains Moore, continuing, "my association and experience of working with the dedicated team in Virtual Dublin has put us in a position to blur the distinctions between SL and RL by developing and delivering ever more imaginative and inspirational hook ups." Attendees from the SL community include professional musicians, venue owners, producers and appreciative listeners. Menorca owner and musician Slim Warrior remarked, "It was informative and a great show! It gave a brief outline of the importance of protecting your creative work." She plans to come back and tell others: "[One] 1 hour is a small amount of time to cover these topics in full." Listener Serenity Innis said, "Very interesting topic - wonderful performers. I am curious about the evolution of the music scene in SL." Kevin Ballinger, who actually lives in Malta, remarked, "[I] switched on the TV and by coincidence caught the program." He then immediately logged into SL to join the virtual audience and submit a question to hear the panel responses. Musician Toby Lancaster commented, "I find the subject and the opportunity to interact with professionals interesting. It is particularly of interest to people who want to make a living from music." The show is broadcast Thursdays from 11:30am to 12:30pm SLT into the Volta Cinema in Dublin in SL. To locate the theatre use Search - Volta Cinema.
